Brain Image

Our mind is a complex entity that has many elements; it’s crazy to think that one single thought can lead on to a thousand others.

We have two main types of thoughts which can affect our mindset – Positive and Negative.

Negative thoughts such as anger, jealousy or worry are generally attributed to a Fixed Mindset. A Growth mindset is one where we adopt a ‘can do’ attitude, and our thoughts are filled with excitement, calmness and happiness.

We are in control!

Perhaps one of the greatest things that we have as humans, is the power to choose what we think about at any given time.

Our thoughts enable us to create a vision of the future we desire, without already having it.

There is a quote from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, which says:

“He had nothing to start with, except the capacity to know what he wanted, and the determination to stand by that desire until he realised it.”

In other words: Create your vision and do everything you can to achieve it!

Been there, done it.

A few weeks back, I was talking to a millionaire businessman, who in the 1990s had it all, lost it all, and spent time in prison for his troubles.

Before being sent away, the man employed over 100 people, owned a million pound house and even drove a Lamborghini.

He explained to me that when he went to prison, he lost everything; he lost his money, his assets but most important of all, he lost the time to watch his kids grow.

Long Story Short

After spending 3 long years in prison, and without a penny to his name, the businessman was released back into society. The only thing he had going for him was the chance to work in a factory for £30 a day.

Unbelievably 5 years later, once again the businessman was a millionaire… Legitimately.

I asked the businessman, “How did you turn your life around in such a short space of time, and how can others do the same?”

He told me, “Develop Your Mind, Have a Plan and Never Give Up.”

To be learned

Good judgement comes from experience, and experience often comes from bad judgement.

Thomas Edison once said:

“I have not failed; I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

I think this is one of the best quotes I have ever read, and one which I personally have turned to many times in my life.

We only have one chance at life, what we focus on, and what we act upon will determine the level of success we have.

Imagination gives us the power to visualise what we want to achieve in our future. Some people have visions of changing the world, for others it could mean riches, or for some it could simply mean freedom.

3 Steps to Developing Your Mind

  1. Learn from your experiences – In my opinion this is the most important. Write down your mistakes as they happen, then create a process and so that next time...there will be no next time.
  2. Study successful people – Many successful people have had to overcome adversity in the past, study icons such as Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs and Richard Branson. Use these individuals and draw strength from their experiences.
  3. Read personal development books – Study topics such as Psychology, Leadership and Business.

Below is a list of 3 great books to get you started:

  • The Chimp Paradox by Dr. Steve Peters
  • The Real Deal by Dragon’s Den entrepreneur, James Caan
  • The Art Of War by Sun Tzu
